MR. RANKIN'S CLASS

Today we launched our tissue paper hot air balloons.  The students did a great job of building them.

Luke’s family has to sell the hogs.  The hogs are their main source of income.  Predict what you think the family will do in order to recover this income.  In other words, how is the family going to get more money?

Four strong floor hockey teams were vying to get their names engraved on the Golden Stick; to do so they had to win the class floor hockey championship.  In the end, the champs were Brailee’s Blue Jays.  They defeated Kyron’s King Kobras in a tight two game total point match up.  On the B side Joryn’s Jaguars defeated Dylan’s Dinosaurs.  Excellent skill, team work and sportsmanship was on display all tournament long.  Great job, Red Hot Peppers!

 

Recently, Rankin’s Red Hot Chili Peppers went skating at the Lacombe Arena.  We had a lot of fun.  About half of the class chose to free skate.  The other half broke into two teams and played a fun, competitive game of hockey.  The winning team, for the best of three series, was able to sign their names to the Hockey Stick Trophy that hangs in our classroom.  In the end, each team won one game and the third game was very close.  Please enjoy our Skating Slideshow below.

….which means a party for Rankin’s Red Hot Chili Peppers.   Today was a milestone day.  The 25 students have had an impressive start to the school year and have earned their 50th marble in our Marble Drop Challenge.  Every time they get 50 marbles in the container they earn a class party.  The short video clip below demonstrates their excitement with the ceremonial 50th marble being released into the container.  WELL DONE #RRHCP!

Luke thinks he sees a third child’s face in the sports’ family house.  Do you think he is right?  If so, what do you think Luke will do about this new discovery?

Because the new house subdivision is being built, the Garner family  found out they have to sell their hogs.  The hogs are how the family makes their money.  What do you predict they will do to make money now?

On Thursday, March 12 the ÉLUE gym was packed with people eager to see the ninth annual Mock Rock.  The twelve grade 6 performances did not disappoint.  Each act was unique, full of energy, had great lip-syncing, super props, excellent costumes and polished choreography.

Those who took to the stage truly gave it their all!  Because of the on-stage talent, the four judges had a very tough job.  Selecting the top five performances was quite difficult for DARE Officer Glenn Ford, Leslie Ennis (former ELUE teacher), Sunny 94’s Andy Moran and Sunny 94’s Suzy Burge.  However, they did a great job!

To cap off the evening the staff at ÉLUE performed a medley of songs that pitted the males versus the females. It was a show stopper that dazzled the audience.  Special thanks to each of them for the time spent rehearsing, getting costumes and performing.

Rankin’s Rattlers wish to thank everyone who helped make MockRock 2015 a huge success!  We thoroughly enjoyed putting together the project, performing on stage and most importantly collecting food bank donations for The Lacombe and District Food Bank.  This year around 600 pounds of food and $160 cash was collected!  Also, we wish to recognize our sponsors for making the Mock Rock evening possible.  Please see the list below.
